What an HR assistant does

An HR assistant handles the administration of people operations. They keep employee records accurate, coordinate onboarding and offboarding, and answer routine questions. They support HR policy but do not make legal or compliance decisions.

Typical responsibilities

  • Preparing onboarding packets and coordinating new hire paperwork

  • Maintaining employee records in an HRIS

  • Scheduling training, reviews and HR meetings
