Role guide
Hire a Remote Social Media Assistant
Consistent posting, community replies and reporting across your social channels.
What a social media assistant does
A social media assistant keeps your channels active and responsive. They schedule content, reply to comments and messages, monitor mentions and report on what performs. Strategy and creative direction usually still come from you or a marketing lead.
Typical responsibilities
Scheduling posts across platforms using a content calendar
Formatting content and adapting it for each channel
Responding to comments and direct messages in your brand voice
Monitoring mentions and escalating sensitive issues
Tracking metrics and preparing simple monthly reports
Researching trends, hashtags and competitor activity
Skills to look for
Natural writing voice and awareness of platform norms
Consistent posting discipline
Good judgment on sensitive replies
Basic design ability in Canva or similar
Curiosity about what your audience responds to
Software and tools
Buffer, Later, Hootsuite or Sprout Social
Canva and CapCut
Meta Business Suite, LinkedIn, TikTok and X analytics
Notion or Airtable for content calendars
Experience to look for
Ask for the accounts they have managed, what they posted and how they measured results. Follower counts alone don’t prove skill; look for engagement quality, consistency and a clear description of their workflow.
